Support Through the Postpartum Weeks

The weeks after birth are unlike any other. Between feeds, healing, sleepless nights and the endless small tasks nobody warns you about, there is very little left over for rest. A mother's helper fills that gap with steady, hands-on help, so you can sleep when the baby sleeps — or simply sit down.

We are not here to take over. We are here to hold the household steady while you bond with your baby, in the way that suits your family.

What We Help With Around the House

Mother's helper support is flexible and built around what you actually need that week. Typical help includes:

  • Postpartum support and rest coverage
  • Meal planning and preparation
  • Laundry and light tidying
  • Nursery and home organization
  • Bottle, pump and feeding station care
  • Errands, groceries and pharmacy runs
  • Older sibling support and play
  • Emotional support and an extra pair of hands

Postpartum Doula Care

For families who want an experienced, calming presence through the first weeks at home, our postpartum doula care is built around you rather than the chores. We support your recovery, help you read your baby's cues, and give you the confidence to trust your own instincts.

Doula care is non-medical. We are there to support and encourage, never to take over, and we will always point you toward clinical support when it is needed.

  • Postpartum recovery and rest support
  • Feeding support — breastfeeding, bottle and pumping
  • Newborn soothing, settling and sleep routines
  • Guidance on safe sleep and newborn basics
  • Emotional support and a judgement-free ear
  • Sibling introduction and family rhythm

Overnight Night Nurse Support

Nights are where new parents feel it most. Our night nurse service covers the overnight hours in your own home so you can sleep uninterrupted, knowing your baby is in capable hands. We take every waking, feeding, change and settling through to morning.

Night nurse support is non-medical newborn care — practical overnight help, not clinical treatment. Shifts run eight to ten hours, usually from late evening until early morning, and can be booked a few nights a week or as a block of nights for the first weeks home.

  • Overnight shifts, typically 8–10 hours
  • Feeding support — bringing baby to you, or bottle feeding
  • Soothing, winding and settling back to sleep
  • Safe sleep positioning and overnight changes
  • A written handover of the night's feeds and sleep
  • Available nightly, weekly or in a block of nights

Care for Older Siblings

A new baby turns a household upside down, and older children feel it most. We give them someone whose whole attention is on them — a walk to the park, a craft at the kitchen table, help with homework, or a patient adult to talk to while you feed the baby.

That one-on-one time is often what settles a jealous toddler, and it takes real pressure off you in the process.

Emotional Support Without Judgement

New motherhood can feel isolating, and it is easy to believe everyone else finds it effortless. Our visits are a judgement-free space to say how you are really doing. We listen, we help, and where something needs more than a mother's helper can offer, we will gently point you toward the right professional support — a conversation a registered nurse is well placed to have.

  • Parents with no family nearby to help

What a Visit Looks Like

Visits are shaped around your household. Some families want help with the baby while they sleep; others want meals made, laundry folded and a sibling entertained. You tell us what matters most, and we build the visit around it.

Support is available from a few hours a week to daily help in the early weeks. Daytime mother's helper and doula visits range from $30–$35 per hour, overnight night nurse shifts are quoted at a higher overnight rate, and customized packages are always available.

Where We Serve

We support new and growing families across Durham Region — Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa, Courtice, Bowmanville, Port Perry and Clarington.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our mother's helper service is non-medical. We do not provide clinical assessments, wound care or newborn medical care. What we offer is practical household help, older sibling care, meal preparation and calm emotional support, delivered by a Registered Nurse who understands the postpartum period.

Yes. Support can be structured around the times that hurt most, including early mornings, evenings and the overnight hours. Tell us when you need relief most and we will build the schedule around it.

We do. Alongside mother's helper support, we offer postpartum doula care in the weeks after birth and overnight night nurse support. Both are non-medical, and many families combine them with daytime help.

A mother's helper keeps the household running alongside you — meals, laundry, siblings and everyday hands-on help. A postpartum doula focuses on your recovery and confidence as a new parent. A night nurse covers the overnight hours so you can sleep. All three are non-medical, and we are glad to blend them into one plan.

Daytime mother's helper and postpartum doula visits range from $30–$35 per hour, depending on the length and frequency of visits. Overnight night nurse shifts are quoted at a higher overnight rate. Customized packages are available.
